English Description: This series entitled “His Beautiful Names”, presents the Most Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala as found in the Quran and the Sunnah. Shaikh Dr. Suhaib Hasan, has relied on the verses of the Quran and the authentic Hadith of the Prophet [Peace be upon him] and, from these Ayat of Qur’an and Ahadith has given us to experience the Glory and Greatness of Allah Azza Wa Jall, and to derive many lessons and benefits from His Beautiful Names.
In this 9th episode, Shaikh Dr. Suhaib Hasan talks about the names: Al-Mu'iz (The Honourer), Al-Muthil (The Humiliator) & As-Samee (The All-Hearing); as Allah Azza Wa Jall Says:
“Say, “Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humiliate whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.”
[Surah Ali-Imran, Ayat 26]
Allah Azza Wa Jall is ‘Aziz, Possessor of Glory, and Mu’iz, Giver of Glory. He Gives glory to His obedient and loving servants.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala humiliates those who disbelieve in or disobey Him.
“Indeed, the ones who oppose Allah and His Messenger - those will be among the most humiliated.
Allah has written, "I will surely overcome, I and My messengers." Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.
You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those - He has decreed within their hearts faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him - those are the party of Allah. Unquestionably, the party of Allah - they are the successful.”
[Surah Al-Mujadilah, Ayat 20-22]
In Abu Dawud, Book 17: Wages; Hadith 3455, we read a hadith of the Prophet [PBUH]:
Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Umar: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah, Peace be upon him, say: “If you (1) practice Tabaiya Al-Ainiya transactions (that is, selling goods to a person for a certain price and then buying them back from him for a far less price or dealing in interest), (2) and followed the tails of the cows (that is indulging in agriculture and became contented with it) (3) and give up conducting the Jihad (that is, fighting) in Allah’s Cause, Allah will cover you with humiliation and it will not be removed until you return back to your Deen, (that is, the religion of Islam).”’
[Sahih]
“So whoever Allah wants to guide - He expands his breast to [contain] Islam; and whoever He wants to misguide - He makes his breast tight and constricted as though he were climbing into the sky. Thus does Allah place defilement upon those who do not believe.”
[Surah Al-An’aam, Ayat 125]
Humiliation may be theirs in this life. As for those who worship false gods as Allah Says:
“Indeed, those who took the calf [for worship] will obtain anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world, and thus do We recompense the inventors [of falsehood].”
[Surah Al-A’raaf, Ayat 152]
Moreover eternal disgrace will be their fate on the Day of Judgment, Allah Says:
“Then on the Day of Resurrection He will disgrace them and say, ‘Where are My “partners” for whom you used to oppose [the believers]?’ Those who were given knowledge will say, ‘Indeed disgrace, this Day, and evil are upon the disbelievers’ –
The ones whom the angels take in death [while] wronging themselves, and [who] then offer submission, [saying], ‘We were not doing any evil.’ But, yes! Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what you used to do.
So enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and how wretched is the residence of the arrogant.”
[Surah An-Nahl, Ayat 27-29]
Once a man is humiliated and disgraced by Allah, he will never be honored. Allah Says:
“Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people? But upon many the punishment has been justified. And he whom Allah humiliates - for him there is no bestower of honor. Indeed, Allah does what He wills.”
[Surah Al-Hajj, Ayat 18]
Humiliation and abasement is what exactly happened to the Jews of past times and current times and for eternity
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala Says:
“And the Jews say, "The hand of Allah is chained." Chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they say. Rather, both His hands are extended; He spends however He wills. And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. And We have cast among them animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. Every time they kindled the fire of war [against you], Allah extinguished it. And they strive throughout the land [causing] corruption, and Allah does not like corrupters.”
[Surah Al-Maidah, 64]
“And [recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, ‘Strike with your staff the stone.’ And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. ‘Eat and drink from the provision of Allah, and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.’
And [recall] when you said, ‘O Moses, we can never endure one [kind of] food. So call upon your Lord to bring forth for us from the earth its green herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions.’ [Moses] said, ‘Would you exchange what is better for what is less? Go into [any] settlement and indeed, you will have what you have asked.’ And they were covered with humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from Allah [upon them]. That was because they [repeatedly] disbelieved in the signs of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That was because they disobeyed and were [habitually] transgressing.”
[Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 60-61]
“Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul. Indeed, Allah is All-Hearing and All-Seeing.”
In these times when human beings live out their lives in abject state of fear, anxiety and misery as a result of the material and secular outlook which dominates their lives, there is the need to turn back to our Creator and learn from His Book, The Qur’an and from the Sunnah of His Prophet [PBUH] to get the Guidance for our salvation in this life and the Hereafter.
Shaikh Suhaib Hasan was born in India but brought up and educated in Pakistan. After completing Islamic and Arabic studies (Fadil Arabic, 1960) and English language studies (B.A. 1962), he joined the newly-set-up Islamic University at Madinah, Saudi Arabia for higher studies in the faculty of Sharia. Here he studied under a galaxy of prominent scholars such as Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz, Muhammad Amin al-Shanqiti, Muhammad Nasiruddin al-Albani and later his father Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar Hasan. After graduating in 1966, he began his career as a teacher and worker in Islamic Dawa at Nairobi, Kenya on behalf of Darul Ifta. In 1976, he moved to London where he engaged in Islamic Dawa especially through the forum of Al-Quran Society. Currently he is the chairman of Masjid & Madrasah al-Tawhid Trust and Secretary of the Islamic Sharia Council of Great Britain.
